Companionship
Meaningful connection for a better quality of life
Loneliness is as damaging to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day — and it affects millions of older and disabled people across the UK. Our companionship service pairs clients with a consistent, trusted carer who genuinely enjoys spending time with them.
This isn't just a welfare check. It's real conversation, shared activities, a reason to get up and dressed, and the confidence that someone cares. Over time, clients and their Ekvarta companions often form lasting, meaningful relationships.
✅ What's Included
- •Conversation and active listening
- •Games, puzzles, reading and activities
- •Accompanying on walks and outings
- •Attending appointments together
- •Video calling family members
- •Gentle physical activity and movement
⚠️ What's Not Included
- •Clinical nursing procedures
- •Administering injections or wound dressings
- •Regulated personal care (bathing, etc.) unless added to care plan

Medication Reminders
Safe, reliable support to stay on schedule
Missing or doubling up on medication is one of the most common — and preventable — causes of hospital admission among older people. Our carers provide consistent, recorded support to ensure medication is taken correctly and on time.
This service is not a regulated nursing activity — our carers prompt and observe, rather than administer injections or manage clinical procedures. For complex medication needs, we work alongside district nurses and healthcare teams.
✅ What's Included
- •Prompting at prescribed medication times
- •Observing the person takes their medication
- •Recording in care notes each visit
- •Alerting family or GP if medication is missed or concerns arise
- •Collecting prescriptions from pharmacy
⚠️ What's Not Included
- •Injections or IV medication
- •Crushing medication without GP approval
- •Adjusting dosages (this is a clinical decision)

Meal Preparation
Nutritious, personalised meals in your own kitchen
Good nutrition underpins everything — energy, immunity, wound healing and mental wellbeing. When preparing meals becomes difficult, the impact on health can be rapid and serious. Our carers prepare fresh, tailored meals in the client's own home, respecting cultural preferences, dietary restrictions and personal taste.
✅ What's Included
- •Preparing breakfast, lunch and/or dinner
- •Adapting to dietary needs (diabetic, low-sodium, soft diet)
- •Cultural and religious dietary requirements
- •Washing up and basic kitchen tidying
- •Sitting with the person during meals
⚠️ What's Not Included
- •Specialist dysphagia (swallowing disorder) meal preparation without dietitian guidance
- •PEG tube feeding (requires nursing care)

Respite Support
A break for family carers — you deserve it
Caring for a loved one is one of the most rewarding — and demanding — things a person can do. Carer burnout is real, and taking regular breaks isn't selfish, it's essential. Ekvarta steps in so family carers can rest, work, attend appointments or simply have time to themselves.
Respite visits can be a few hours or a full day. We take over the full care routine so the primary carer can step away with complete confidence their loved one is in good hands.
✅ What's Included
- •Taking over the full care routine
- •Companionship, meals and medication reminders
- •Flexible timing — morning, afternoon or evening
- •Planned weekly or ad hoc as needed
- •Emergency respite when carers are unwell
💚 Carer's Assessment
If you're a family carer, you have a legal right to a free Carer's Assessment from your local council. This can unlock funding for respite care.
