- Local councils can arrange emergency respite in a crisis

- Your own health matters — neglecting it puts the person you care for at risk too
This Is an Emergency
If you have reached a point where you can no longer provide care safely, this is a care crisis. Contact the local council's adult social care emergency line immediately and explain that carer breakdown has occurred or is imminent. They can arrange emergency respite care — temporary placement in a care home or emergency home care — while a longer-term solution is found.
Getting Support for Yourself
Carers UK (0808 808 7777) offers a free helpline, advice and connection to local support groups. Your own GP can refer you to talking therapies and support. A Carer's Assessment from the council is free and can unlock direct payments for carers, respite care, and other support.
